What have past attendees said about the ABRUP  Symposium ?

"Symposium was excellent"

"Enjoyed the whole day and learned a lot."

"Very happy with the symposium - great value for money"

"Very helpful information that was not provided at TAFE"

"When you pay good money to attend a course and walk away with more knowledge than you came with it is money well spent."

"Great presentation. A different approach from any other termite presentation I have ever heard. This lateral thinking will ensure that I never approach termite work in quite the same way again. Thank you!"

"Chris well done. You and your colleagues have excelled yourselves. Keep up the good work."

"This presentation had the lot. Unbelievable photos, entertaining, humour, sense of wit, captivating. Didn't want to blink as didn't want to miss anything."

"Some more practical aspects would be great although understand that this would be difficult to organise."

"Symposium could be improved by providing more notice of the event."

"You need to encourage more pest managers to attend"

"Keep up the quality"

"Promote it to TAFE educators and suggest they promote it to best students"

"Good to see the CERIT symposium back on the rails"

Background

During 2008, as a result of many requests, well known pest management industry contributors Stephen Doggett, Dr Chris Orton and Ron DeGroot  joined forces to institute a new annual symposium series; 'Advances in Biology and Research of Urban Pests' (ABRUP Series), based on the highly regarded CERIT symposia.

The re launch of the CERIT symposium in October 2008 at Westmead under its new title was extremely successful. It provided attendees with extremely relevant factual information, described as a 'learning field day'.

ABRUP Symposia are co-ordinated jointly by Department of Medical Entomology (a facility of the University of Sydney and the Institute of Clinical Pathology and Medical Research at Westmead Hospital), PiMACS and De Groot Technical Services Pty Ltd.

The goals of the Symposium Co-ordinators are to:-

  • Deliver quality symposia with a particular emphasis on the biology and on the latest research and thinking with urban pests and related areas.
  • Select presenters for their technical knowledge and academic / research experience within a particular field, and for their strong connection to, or background in, the urban and commercial pest management industry both from within Australia and overseas.
  • Provide pest managers and other industry personnel the opportunity to earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.

As such we appreciate your feedback on how well we are performing in meeting your training needs. Alternatively we welcome any suggestions you may wish to make for improvement or possible ideas on content or location of future Symposium.
